The share of molecular hydrogen as a source “green energy” is currently significantly increasing. It proposed to use existing underground natural gas storage facilities store large volumes hydrogen. In Russia, depleted oil and fields (DOGFs) deep aquifers are used for storage. purpose this work was determine microbial diversity in DOGF by cultural 16S rRNA gene-based approaches the effect H2 on growth microorganisms from (UGS) horizons. composition community inhabiting formation water Peschano–Umetskoe reservoir typical communities reservoirs included bacteria phyla Bacillota (Dethiosulfatibacter, Defluviitalea, Acetobacterium, Syntrophobotulus), Actinobacteriota (Dietzia, Rhodococcus), Spirochaetota (Sphaerochaeta), Pseudomonadota (Shewanella), Bacteroidota (Petrimonas), together with methanogenic archaea phylum Euryarchaeota (Methanobacterium). some samples, methanogens genus Methanobacterium reached 61.6% total community; these hydrogen-utilizing organisms may contribute methane Microbial UGSs located were less diverse abundant. Cultivable hydrogenotrophic sulfate-reducing, homoacetogenic, prokaryotes retrieved studied Microorganisms present condensation waters UGS can influence phase, affect host rocks borehole equipment.
